Somerset Art Weeks happen each year for two weeks in early autumn. They alternate annually – either ‘open studios’ or ‘exhibitions’. During the weeks Somerset artists who are members exhibit their work to the public – painters, sculptors, potters, stained glass makers and more – either as an exhibition with invited non-member artists or as open studios. A guide is published and the public encouraged to go from venue to venue. Last year there were over 200 venues throughout Somerset and a huge variety of work. Somerset Art Works, the organisation that runs Arts Weeks, is based in Langport and is an artist-led, not-for-profit organisation.
Apart from Arts Weeks the team curate and run many other projects throughout the year involving schools, local communities, the National Trust and others, bringing the member artists and invited artists much needed work and publicity. There’s a good new website – somersetartworks.org.uk – where you can check out members’ work and SAW projects.
