Thanks to Bruton Festival of Arts and Take Art we have a great chance this autumn to see an exciting and critically acclaimed band without even leaving the town.
With captivating vocals and a band packed to the rafters with talent, fusing the folk and urban traditions of her Zambian homeland and her Scottish roots with London’s eclectic music scene, Namvula blends African sounds and rhythms with Latin, jazz and folk into uplifting and emotive songs.
Namvula has collaborated and shared the stage with artists including legendary South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela, multi-award-winning Zambian singer Maureen Lilanda, and sitarist Anoushka Shankar. She is currently working with some of the UK’s most respected African, jazz and folk musicians, including Mercury-nominated bass player Liran Donin and saxophonist Chris Williams, Senegalese percussionist Mamadou Sarr and guitarist Jack Ross. Namvula’s debut album, Shiwezwa, was released to critical acclaim in November 2014 and was among the Sunday Times’s Top 100 Albums. Namvula’s gigs regularly sell out, so be sure to book your tickets early! www.namvula.com.
