Part of the Bruton Festival of Arts, the Writing Sweatshop competition has been running since 2004. Writers are asked to sit for one day in a public place (a café, pub, restaurant or shop) and produce a story of about 2,000 words in six hours. Judges have included well-known authors Victoria Glendinning, Helena Drysdale and Andrew Miller. There is also a Schools version.
