On Thursday 30 April, Emma Craigie and Jonathan Mayo launch their new book at 6.30 for 7pm At the Chapel.
Exactly 70 years after the day that Hitler committed suicide, Emma Craigie, author of Chocolate Cake with Hitler, and Jonathan Mayo, author of D-Day, Minute by Minute, will introduce their new collaboration, Hitler’s Last Day, Minute by Minute, which charts what was happening throughout the world as Hitler prepared to take his own life. Drawing on hundreds of personal accounts, the book presents events that day in Dachau, Washington, London, Burma and throughout Europe. It tells the stories of starving Dutch schoolchildren, of young Kamikaze pilots, of Churchill in Chequers, of prisoners on death marches, of German soldiers fleeing the Russians and of the people holed up with Hitler in his Berlin bunker.
