‘The Passion of Stanley Spencer’: A talk about this most passionate of artists by Rev. Ian Cooper for U3A

Synopsis:
Stanley Spencer was an Edwardian artist who had a brief connection with the area around Stroud, Gloucestershire. Stanley was a most passionate man; a passion that was revealed in his portraits and landscapes but above all in his extraordinary religious paintings. His passion led to both love and suffering. Ian Cooper’s talk will include many illustrations of Stanley’s art.
Your Presenter:
Revd Ian Cooper MTh studied Theology at Exeter University and Biblical Studies at Kings College, London. He served as a parish priest for 35 years, mostly in Worcestershire, Hertfordshire and Wiltshire before his retirement in 2013. In recent years he trained Readers and Lay people in the Diocese of Salisbury and has been a tutor for the West of England Ministerial Training Course. He lives with his wife Sandy in Stroud.
