An illustrated reading of poems about Spencer, and other artists and mystics with award-winning poet Rosie Jackson.

ROSIE JACKSON has won many awards for her poetry, including being commended in the top 10 of this year’s National Poetry Competition, 1st prize Teignmouth 2021, 1st prize Wells 2018, 1st prize Stanley Spencer 2017. Fascinated by art, she collaborated with Graham Burchell on Two Girls and a Beehive: Poems about Stanley Spencer and Hilda Carline Spencer (2020), which Annie Freud calls ‘a masterpiece’. Rosie has a doctorate in English Literature and is a passionate believer in the power of the creative arts to heal and transform. She has worked in many community and health settings as well as literary and creative contexts.

In this reading At The Chapel, Rosie will give an illustrated talk about the Spencers’ art and lives, sharing paintings, photos and poems. She will also share from her new collection, Love Leans over the Table (2023), which features mystics such as John Donne, Julian of Norwich, Simone Weil, and artists such as Barbara Hepworth. Kim Moore calls them ‘startling, moving poems,’ while Bel Mooney writes in the Daily Mail that ‘Rosie is a rare poet of transcendence who expresses the inexplicable with grace.’

Rosie will be supported by Dorset poet Stephen Boyce. Signed books will be for sale.
