ESSAY ON STEINBECK

ESSAY ON STEINBECK

Alec Gilmore, an authority on John Steinbeck, has written a delightful essay on the author of The Grapes of Wrath and other important works in the literary firmament. Steinbeck spent several months in 1959 in Bruton, working on his retelling of the Arthurian legends, and Mr Gilmore outlines the life the writer led here with his wife Elaine. Along the way he reminds us of the lack of modern facilities that the average 1950s British family had to cope with, and the somewhat primitive cars that were available. The essay is both entertaining and instructive – find it on http://www.gilco.org.uk/eos/steinbeck-in-england.html.
