  • Dutch Masters Floral Arrangements with Lucy Simon

Inspired by the art of the Dutch Masters, this one-day workshop will look at how a still life was and is arranged for a painting. The workshop coincides with the exhibition ‘Matthew Day Jackson. Pathetic Fallacy’ and is inspired by Jackson’s mixed media works that reference 17th century Dutch flower arrangements.

Learn how to prepare and combine flowers, taking into consideration colour and tonal palette, texture and height and explore the themes of decay, age, and nature, as we look at various stages of flower freshness and shape in order to create our own distinctive arrangements that mimic the old paintings. The day will begin with an informal introduction to floral design and the history of Dutch floral arrangements. You will then have the opportunity to create your own still life arrangement in the style of the Dutch Masters, as well as a hand tied bouquet. At the conclusion of the day, you will have the chance to photograph your work and all pieces can be taken home. This course is suitable for beginners.

    Tickets available here:
