The landlords of the award winning pub ‘The Three Horseshoes Inn’ in Batcombe not only collaborate with local producers but also with local artists. Kav and Anna-Marie commissioned the Dutch designer Mies, who relocated to Batcombe 2 years ago, to create an artistic map of the Somerset area. They had the idea to combine art with information about the region for his customers. ‘It was a real collaboration’. Mies explains.’I really enjoyed the process of finding the right symbols to show the costumers what Somerset has to offer’.
On the August 5th the project will come to its peak when the map will find its place on the wall at the Three Horse Shoes Inn.
Mies mainly works on commissions for personalised maps. ‘It is a great gift for someone’s birthday, marriage or retirement. ‘I start by drawing the map of the area where you live and will add all kinds of personal details. Your dog, your house, your car and everything that really means something to you.’
If you would like to see the map you are very welcome to visit the Three Horseshoes Inn in Batcombe and enjoy a local ‘Wild Beer’ and the famous ‘Westcombe cheese’.
Or you could visit the exhibition of the MIES-maps and portaits in ‘The Old School’ in Batcombe during the Somerset Art Weeks (17 oct – 2 oct 2016). More details and information www.MIES.ink.
