The new footpath from Darkey Lane toward the dam and Brewham has opened.
The old path, which ran along the north side of the River Brue, had long been closed off because of a collapsed crossing many years ago. Walkers had switched to an unofficial route on the south bank, but that was never an adopted public footpath. This new path, which hugs the river bank and has involved the construction of a number of bridges, is a authorised right of way. The work was carried out by Somerset County Council after Bruton Town Council made representations following the closure of the unofficial path by the landowner.
