The South East area group of the Somerset Wildlife Trust, based in Castle Cary, organise illustrated talks on the first Tuesday of every month during the winter. They take place in Caryford Community Hall, Ansford and topics cover broad aspects of nature and so are of appeal to a large audience, not just naturalists. Subjects this winter include penguins, butterflies, South Africa, beekeeping, where our water comes from etc. Admission costs just £2 and is free for children. The campaign to protect Bruton Library from closure Currently only open Friday: 10:00am to 1:30pm, 2:30pm to 6:00pm On 15 December, Somerset County Council announced that it was proposing to close 20 of its 34 libraries. On the list was Bruton Library. An active and well coordinated campaign by many library groups resulted in the announcement, on the 25 January, that nine of these libraries are likely to be saved. However, Bruton library is not amongst the saved libraries and could close this year.
