Health Centre Minor Injuries Unit, Dyke’s Way, Wincanton BA9 9FQ (01963 435 700).

Hospitals: the main hospital for Bruton and district, with an A&E department, is Yeovil District Hospital, Yeovil BA21 4AT; 01935 475 122. Yeovil is about 16 miles from Bruton on the A359. As you enter the town you will find the hospital on the left at the second roundabout – turn left along Reckleford Road towards Shaftesbury and left again to find the hospital car park. Pay on leaving.

Emergency out of hours: dial 111.

Shepton Mallet Community Hospital in Old Wells Road, BA4 4LP (342 931) does not deal with emergencies, but has a Minor Injuries Unit (8am–8pm). Shepton Mallet Treatment Centre, Old Wells Road, BA4 4LP (333 600) is opposite. Check which one you require before setting out.

Wincanton Community Hospital (formerly known as Verrington) is at the end of Dancing Lane, off Wincanton West Hill (01963 828 444). It takes mainly elderly patients – no emergencies.

Yeatman Hospital, in central Sherborne (01935 813 991), is a treatment centre – no emergencies, but a Minor Injuries unit.
